Distance learning is the way of the future. Many students today actually prefer to take their classes online or remotely when they have the option because it saves them valuable time and money. Most classes are offered in person and they require you to spend money and time to commute back and forth from school when you could be using your resources in other ways. Here are some of the advantages of learning from a distance.

Saves on transportation costs

One of the costs of attending college is not just the tuition, but the transportation costs you will incur. Although most people do not take into consideration the amount of money that it costs for them to get to school everyday, it really does add up. Traveling by car can cost you over $3 per gallon of gas and even costs for public transportation have increased substantially. You also have to consider the difficulty of traveling in harsh weather conditions if you live in a cold climate with lots of snow. If you can complete your assignments from home, then it will save you thousands of dollars over the course of a year alone.

Distance learning classes tend to be cheaper

Although this is not always true of distance learning classes, they tend to be slightly cheaper than the other classes on campus. They are usually cheaper because it does not use as much resources as the in person classes since there is no need for a class room and they do not need to pay the teacher as much because they do not have to physically teach the class. Definitely choose these types of classes if you are trying to save any money.

More flexibility

These classes are much more flexible as they allow you to have more time to study the material and you can do anything you want to learn on your own time. Instead of being forced to listen to lectures in a classroom, you can read the text at your own pace and even find your own study materials online. You can watch video lectures or listen to podcasts while you take care of other matters around the house. It allows you to take to be more involved in the learning process because you take the initiative to decide what, when, and how to study.

Better selection of institutions

If you live in a remote area or small city with few options in terms of institutions, you can actually use distance learning classes to attend colleges that are outside of your area. Even most of the medium sized cities only have a few institutions to choose from, but you can broaden your horizons if you attend classes online. Ivy league institutions as well as other colleges and universities all over the world offer distance learning classes and you can enroll in any of them no matter where you are.

Saves lots of time

Physically attending classes is very time consuming because you have to be on time and you must usually go at least several times a week. It consumes valuable time that you could be using to go to work, run important errands, or even to take care of family members. All of the time that you would usually spend during the commute can be used to study the material instead, so you will gain an advantage either way.

It is all the same thing

There is no difference between the distance and on campus classes because they often cover the same material and they use the same teachers. You will get all of the same benefits of taking the class and you will still get the same amount of credit on your transcript.

There are many benefits to taking distance learning classes as opposed to in person classes, especially if you need to save money. You may not be able to take all of your classes from a distance, but it is something to consider if and when you do have that option.

All college and university students who want to be considered for federal student aid programs need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form allows financial aid departments at colleges and universities to qualify students and their parents for federal loans, college grants, federal work study, and other forms of financial aid. The federal deadline for completing the application is generally in late June every year, but many states establish much earlier deadlines. States use the information students provide on this application to qualify students for state-specific college grant and aid programs.

The FAFSA can be filled out on the internet. Prior to filling out the form, the student and their parent(s) will need to gather their tax returns and other statements of income. If a student meets certain age requirements, they may be able to file the form without including information about their family’s finances. The Department of Education has developed a user-friendly online interface for filing this essential financial aid application. If they are not able to complete the application in one sitting, the student and their parent(s) can save their progress and finish the application later.

Upon completing the federal aid application, the student and their parent(s) will be able to view their expected family contribution (EFC). The EFC is the amount of money which the federal student aid agency believes a student and their family should be able to pay towards the cost of their education. Once the student knows what their EFC will be, they can better evaluate the cost of their different college options. Students and their parent(s) can subtract the EFC from the estimated cost of tuition, plus qualified expenses, at potential colleges to determine if they will need to secure any private loans or other sources of funding.

Financial aid departments at colleges and universities generally send new and continuing students financial aid award letters during the summer before the fall semester will begin. These letters detail the college grants, federal loans, and institutional scholarships or aid that a student is being offered. Some parents will be offered the option to take out a Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (known as a PLUS loan). Students and their parent(s) should review financial aid award letters carefully.

The FAFSA is the first step most students take towards securing funding for their college education. Remember to pay attention to deadlines and to answer all questions truthfully and honestly. Federal financial aid allows many students to seize upon the great opportunities available to college graduates.

College grants are necessary for many college students. Without them, they would not be able to attend college, or they would need to take out student loans. Grants come from several sources, both public and private. Grants from both types of organizations are important to consider in your grant search. They differ mainly in who gives the money. Private grants are similar to public grants from federal and state government or public universities.

College grants are like scholarships, but they may not require students to meet specific academic requirements to qualify for them. Instead, students may have to meet certain requirements at birth, or they may have to meet requirements they can only fulfill because of circumstances they have faced, such as job loss or losing their homes in a natural disaster. Students do not have to repay grants, as they are gifts of financial assistance for college.

One stipulation many college grants have is that students must use them to attend accredited educational programs. Accredited usually means that the program is recognized by a regional accrediting association, of which there are six in the United States. Public colleges and universities as well as for-profit post-secondary institutions may be accredited.

The American Association of University Women is one private organization that offers college grants. Professional associations, private colleges, and civic and service organizations may also provide college grants. Local and regional affiliates of a national or global organization may also offer grants. Check out college alumni associations, hobby and sporting associations and other private groups to find college grants, too. It is important to check different sources of funding from private organizations to find the most grants possible.

Private organizations may have a long list of eligibility requirements for their college grants. They may state that the grants can only be used at a public college, not at a for-profit school, for example. They may also state that the grant can be used only at a specific college. They may also have requirements about the background, ethnicity, future intended professions, gender or marital status of the students that apply for their grants. Read carefully through the eligibility requirements of each grant for which you want to apply to see if you qualify.

A college degree opens more doors to employment opportunities than ever before, but the fear of paying for college makes many feel they have to stop their education once high school is complete. Fortunately, there are many grants available to help potential college students pay for an advanced education. An average college education can cost more than $20,000 a year. College is an investment in the future, but many students struggle to find a way to pay for that investment right now. Fortunately there is a clearing house of potential college grants available. These are grants and not loans, so the money is the students to be applied to schooling and does not have to be paid back. Since these grants are available through public organizations, they are open to anyone who qualifies for each specific grant.

There are many grants available through public and private organizations that can help pay for college. There are grants that are targeted toward minority students, grants targeted at specific subject areas, and talent based grants. There are also grants available based upon a student’s income. By going to our website, we are able to help students find grants from both private sources and public sources. Our mission is to help students afford a chance to invest in their own future through the use of grants.

College allows students to take control of their own future, but paying for college can make that difficult and some people fear that the cost of college will mean they cannot pursue their dreams. College loans are great, but why use a college loan and graduate with an $80,000 debt if we can help find a grant that won’t have to be repaid. Grants are available for nearly every kind of student. The difficulty is finding grants and finding out what sort of grant each student might qualify for. Take the hassle and headache out of finding funding for college and let us help you find the right grant for you. We have access to all kinds of grants, public grants and private grants.

Grants are also available for students who want to earn an advanced degree for those interested in advancing in their careers or changing their career path. College Grants can help students find their path to success and happiness by offering access to grants through public organizations.

A great dilemma exists for today’s high school graduates. A college degree is becoming more of a necessity than an option. While at the same time, the cost of attending college is on a steady rise. Students must carefully consider the cost of each college he or she might wish to attend and determine which forms of financial aid can help finance the cost of a degree. Financial aid like University Grants are what bridge the financial gap for students who couldn’t otherwise afford to attend college.

Finding Grants

There are a wide variety of academic grants available for deserving students; but many students are confused about how to find available grants and scholarships. It can take time to search the internet and inquire in different places about different types of grants for university that might be available. A college grant finder is an excellent tool for aspiring college students. This tool gives students a place to begin their search for financial help in making educational dreams become realities.

Give Yourself Time

When you begin applying to colleges as a senior in high school, you should also begin the search process for University Grants. Grants have varying application periods and missing out on a deadline could mean giving up money you could have been awarded to help pay for college. Many grant applications require components like essays, so giving yourself extra time will help ensure you can complete all of the applications for grants you might qualify for.

The Application Process

Once you have found the grants you would like to apply for, take your time and read all of the instructions and carefully fill in the entire application. Missing pages or misreading questions could lead to your application being denied because of simple mistakes. Carefully reading instructions and proofreading are skills you will need in college, so use this opportunity to practice them.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help during the application process. While you should complete the application and any essay portions yourself, there is nothing wrong with asking a trusted teacher or other adult to proofread your work and assist you in making your applications the best they can be.

Attending college is a dream for many high school graduates and is necessary for many careers in the modern economy. Grants for university can make attending college a reality, and help you start on the road to a successful career.

A college education can be quite affordable with assistance from financial aid programs, loans and grants. College students are eligible for thousands of grants at the federal, state, and local levels. While loans have to be repaid, grant money does not.

For some college grants, the students must show that they need financial assistance in order to pay for their educations. The first step in this process is to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, form. Information such as whether or not the student is a dependent, the size of the student’s family, and the family’s income is used to determine what kinds of aid the student is eligible to receive.

The Federal Pell Grant at the federal level is the most commonly awarded grant in the United States. The amount of money the student receives depends on the student’s circumstances such as the ability of the family to contribute and the cost of education at the chosen institution. Even students whose grades are not excellent may receive funding if they demonstrate significant financial need.

Grants for college students may also be merit based, although some of these may still require the students to demonstrate financial need. These grants are awarded based on factors such as grade point average, SAT scores, honor society membership and leadership responsibilities. They include the National Science and Math Access to Regain Talent Grant, or SMART grant, and the Academic Competitiveness Grant.

Some grants for college are designed for certain groups of students such as those who have served in the military, religious or ethnic minorities, those who have chosen a particular field of study and those who have demonstrated athletic or artistic talent. Other grants are awarded only to women, especially those who are studying in a field traditionally dominated by men or who are caring for families while pursuing their educations. Students who have a certain area of study in mind should look carefully for a grant matching their talent.

All students aspiring to attend college should research available grants carefully. Even students with high financial need who have struggled in school in the past are often able to receive assistance through grants. By finding grants that match their background and talents, many applicants find that a college education can be affordable.

A higher education can open many doors. As many people know, a college degree can be the key that unlocks the door to a bright future. Lifetime earnings for college graduates tend to exceed earnings for those who hold only a high school diploma. Career options are often far greater for those holding a college degree, and there is a greater chance for starting at a higher level and having more opportunities for advancement. Additionally, attending college allows students to explore things that they might otherwise not have the opportunity to do so. However, the financial cost of obtaining a college degree can be daunting. The price tag for a year at college can easily exceed the cost of a new car or a down payment for a house.

However, the high cost of a higher education should not deter any student wishing to attend college. There are many options available for funding a college education. Regardless of one’s socioeconomic background, the cost of attending college need not be a barrier to obtaining a college degree.

State government grants are one way in which students may obtain the funding they need in order to finance the education they seek. State grants for college are free funds available so that students can afford to obtain a college degree. Grants, unlike loans, never need to be repaid. That makes grants an especially attractive option as one seeks to finance a college education.

While federal government grants for students likely will not cover the full cost of college, they do help to decrease the need for potentially costly student loans. In fact, when state government grants for college are paired with other free sources of money such as scholarships, the need to take out student loans may be completely eliminated.

Regardless of what college, the cost of attending that college or one’s socioeconomic background, seeking out state government grants in order to help pay for one’s higher education is a wise step. Government grants may be an important part of funding one’s college education, so seeking out those grants early on in the college planning process is a good idea.

The federal government has instituted many different financial incentives for students hoping to attend college. Not only does it offer need-based grants for those who are eligible nationwide, but it also subsidizes loans and mandates loan-repayment terms for student loans to keep student debt manageable.

Because the cost of attending college varies by state, school and student, it is a good idea for students and their parents to become familiar with the federal government’s role in offering financial aid for college.

One of the first stops in the search for financial aid is the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), an application which considers you and your parents’ financial condition to determine your total expected family contribution (EFC) and the amount of federal grants for college you can receive. The schools you are considering will take this EFC, which is a number generated in a Student Aid Report upon completion of the FAFSA, and put together a financial aid package that typically includes federal grants, loans, and institutional aid.

Federal Grants
Federal grants are need-based financial awards that do not need to be paid back.

Students whose EFC is low enough may qualify for need-based grants from the federal government. The Federal Pell Grant is awarded on a sliding scale up to $5500 for the 2011-12 school year. Only a student whose EFC is 0, which means the family’s need is so high it cannot be expected to contribute financially, can expect to receive the full amount (although some universities and other eligibility requirements apply).

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is awarded to students whose need is considered exceptional. Depending on factors such as when you apply, the award can be anywhere between $100 and $4000.

Other federal grants, like the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH), which is offered to future teachers who agree to teach in high-need areas, may be made available by the federal government on a year-to-year basis.

In addition, many students who qualify for a federal grant also qualify for a need-based college grant offered by their universities.

Federal Work Study
The federal work study program can also help students earn money toward their college education. Depending on the level of funding at your school of choice, work-study eligible students can be paid directly by the school for jobs performed in the work study program. This money is intended for use in defraying educational expenses.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded grants today to six college teams across the country who participated in the 7th annual EPA People, Prosperity and the Planet (P3) award competition held at the National Sustainable Design Expo on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The P3 award competition and National Sustainable Design Expo were a part of the 2011 EPA Earth Day celebration event April 16-17. Since 2004, the P3 annual competition has provided a platform for teams to showcase their sustainable projects designed to protect the environment, encourage economic growth, and use natural resources more efficiently. These projects provide innovative, cutting-edge sustainable solutions to worldwide environmental problems.

“EPA’s P3 Award winners are the environmental and economic future of our nation,” said Paul T. Anastas, assistant administrator for the EPA’s Office of Research and Development. “Their sustainable innovations, from agriculture to architecture to energy production, keep our nation competitive and protect our health and the environment.”

After an initial peer review process, this year winners were selected from 55 competing teams following two days of judging by a panel of national experts convened by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Each P3 award-winning team receives a grant of up to up to $75,000 to further develop the design, implement it in the field, or move it to the marketplace.

Winners of this year’s awards include:

· University of Massachusetts-Lowell for novel greener routes to halogen-free flame retardant material
· University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for solar powered water collection, containment and self regulating distribution system
· Purdue University for development of community power from sustainable small hydro power systems
· University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Oglala Lakota College for use of bone char for the removal of arsenic and uranium from groundwater at the Pine Ridge Reservation
· Drexel University for lightweight green roof systems
· Stanford University for innovative university-school partnerships for renewable energy projects and education

Each year, the National Sustainable Design Expo features EPA’s P3 competition while also highlighting and exhibiting other sustainable policies and technologies developed and implemented by government and state agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations. This year’s expo was co-sponsored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers and Engineers without Borders-USA.
